What Forest Schools Is All About

Forest School enables children to be inspired and encouraged through the outdoor environment. Children's self-esteem is developed through small achievable tasks.

Forest School is run by qualified Forest School leaders who carry out a daily site risk assessment to make sure the site is safe for the children to use. Leaders ensure that all members of the group have the appropriate clothing and footwear. A risk assessment is also carried out for each planned activity.

Many areas of the National Curriculum and Foundation stage are intrinsically covered in the Forest Schools experience without the programmes needing to be curriculum led.

By engaging, motivating and achievable tasks and activities in a woodland environment each child has an opportunity to develop intrinsic motivation, sound emotional and social skills. These, through self awareness, can be developed to reach personal potential.

Tools are used in Forest School and are introduced gradually with a structured safety base that your child becomes familiar with. The use of tools in the wood promotes trust and self-confidence within those taking part; their use will develop both gross and fine motor skills.

The progress of each child is observed and monitored and a thorough evaluation process is used to ensure that the programme and session aims and outcomes are being met.
