Let it Snow!
The children have had great fun with the snow this week. On Wednesday, our assembly was all about the weather and began with a pass the snowball competition between each class to help us to investigate what happens to snow when it gets warm. The children then worked in teams to complete a 'snow challenge' in which they had to take a cup of snow and find the best place in school to keep it as snow the longest. Each class had a winning team and prizes will be awarded in next week's 'Star of the Week' assembly. Playtime was spent building snowmen--Year 1's was definitely the most professional and Year 6's was definitely the largest! Year 6 spent Wednesday and Thursday being reporters and producing a newspaper all about 'Snow Day'. They have also been monitoring the temperature on the school site. The lowest recorded temperature so far has been -3°c on Thursday morning!!

Reindeer

The week culminated in a visit from Father Christmas and his reindeer - I'm not sure who was more excited to see them, the staff or the children!

Take Over Day
The school has been taken over by the children with representatives from every class taking over key roles as teachers, teaching assistants, office staff, headteacher and deputy headteacher. Read all about it in Miss Chandler and Mr Todd's newsletter which will be coming out to you on Monday! This week has also been an exciting week due to bonfire night. We began by learning all about the firework code in assembly on Monday and finished by testing the rules out with sparklers for every child on Thursday. Take a look at what else has been happening this week:

School Council Voting
This week was a really good week in school with the children throwing themselves whole heartedly into School Council election week. The school is covered in campaign posters and I am sure that you have noticed many of the children (and staff!) coming out of school covered in 'Vote….' stickers. I'm sure I even saw home-made cakes being given out on the playground on Wednesday to try and capture children's votes! Official voting has taken place this afternoon and the results will be announced in assembly on Monday morning. I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the children for taking part in the week with such enthusiasm and to all of the parents/carers who have helped their children with making posters and writing campaign speeches at home.

Twycross Zoo
Year 6 spent a great day at Twycross Zoo learning more about plants and animals to support their work on the Rainforest. The children were fantastically well-behaved and all of the adults commented on what an enjoyable day they had had with the children. Well done Year 6!
